What is the Structure and Organization of the League

Tell Me About NDG Baseball?

BACKGROUND

NDG Baseball is affiliated with Little League Baseball. This affiliation allows our competitive (Lynx) teams the opportunity to participate in national tournaments across the country as well as the possibility to go off to a World Series in the USA.

We do associate with Baseball Quebec when it is in the best interest of our kids and our program. We have had a good relationship with Baseball Quebec for many years.

WHAT DO THE HOUSE LEAGUE REGISTRATION FEES COVER ?

The registration fees cover the costs of: the child's uniform (which they keep), equipment purchases, umpire fees, player insurance, "Fun Day Activities" - last day of the year, year end awards and banquet, & team and individual photos.

NOTE: For 2017, NDG Baseball has bought brand new uniforms (different design) & catchers equipment for House League Teams

HOW IS THE LEAGUE RUN ?

The league is run 100% by volunteers. Last year, it was estimated that the leagues fifty-plus volunteers gave over 2200 hours of volunteer time so that young boys & girls can enjoy the sport of baseball.

NDG Baseball also won the "Sports Association of the Year" at the 19th Annual CDN-NDG Sports Awards Banquet.

IS THERE A STRUCTURE TO THE SEASON ?

The season normally begins during the second week of May (May 8th in 2017) and ends during the month of August (Saturday, August 19th 2017).

There is also a two week break in mid-July for the regular season (House League) teams to allow players playing on both regular season (House League) teams and competitive teams the opportunity to focus on their respective provincial tournament teams. The two week break is implemented by all Quebec Little League teams.

NOTE 2017 - For players aged 13-18, the two week break will align with High School Provincial Exam period

WHAT ABOUT THE COMPETITIVE (Lynx) PROGRAM ?

NDG Minor Baseball has a very successful competitive program. In the past five years, NDG Lynx teams have gone onto TEN National Championships and TWO World Series.

Players wishing to participate on a competitive team, as per Little League rules, must play 60% of their "Available to be Played House League Games" by June 15th. Competitive players during this period will practice and play in tournaments during the weekends (Minor, Major, Junior, & Senior)

WHAT ABOUT THE FEES FOR THE COMPETITIVE (Lynx) PROGRAM ?

Fees range based on the needs of each team and what level of play they achieve. Little League used to cover all the fees for National tournaments. But, as of about 2008, they decided from now on that they will only cover the flight expense and one meal-per-day for each player and coach. The Boarding and lodging costs are now the responsibility of each team that participates at a National tournament (approx. $5,000-$8,000).

However, the Little League Major level still has all their expenses covered by Little League Canada and a team who participates in the Junior National tournament in Lethbridge,AB, has most of their lodging expenses covered. Teams that move onto the World Series will have all their board and lodging fees covered.

In general, as an approximation ONLY, a team that does not move onto Nationals yet participates in the Provincial Tournament will result in extra fees per player of (approximations): Rookie ($250), Minor ($300), Major, Junior, & Senior ($350)

TRAINING PROGRAMS DURING THE OFF-SEASON ?

Competitive players and House League players who wish to improve their skills can practice throughout the winter months during our winter indoor sessions which are held on Sundays (SEE MAIN PAGE OF WEBSITE). If you wish to try out for the competitive team it is encouraged that you take part in the winter practice sessions.
