NDG Minor Baseball Mourns the Passing

of One of it's Contributors and Volunteers

GRAHAM NEVIN

1948 - 2016

Graham was active in NDG Baseball as the league's Executive Director

(1999 - 2003) and as the leagues Legal Secretary (2010 - 2014).

Graham Nevin was an NDG Baseball volunteer for two periods (1999 - 2003) & (2010 -2014). In 1999, Graham was the recipient of the leagues "William Hurst Volunteer of the Year Award". During that year, and in 2000, Graham instituted mandatory two day clinics for all NDG Baseball coaches wishing to coach at the competitive level. Those instructional sessions would go on to bear fruit In 2000, with both T-Ball & Major "B-Teams" winning provincials tournaments. Then in 2003 NDG Baseball would win their first "A-Team" tournament at the Minor Tournament level. And then finally in 2004, the Major Lynx would go onto be the first NDG baseball team to move onto a National Championship Tournament.

All these winning teams coaching staffs had one thing in common. They took part in the weekend clinics given in 1999 & 2000. In short, thanks to Graham Nevin pushing for coaches to get professional training, his plan provided the foundation to NDG Baseball future successes at the Provincial and National tournament level.

2014 - NDG BASEBALL AWARDS

In 2014 Graham nominated "Frank Donnelly" for an NDG Baseball Legacy Award. Frank Donnelly was one of the founding members of NDG Baseball in 1961.

Accepting an NDG Baseball Legacy Award on behalf of the Donnelly family was Gord Donnelly (right), ex-NHL hockey player.

2015 - JIM MCKEAN - LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

In 2015 Graham came to the board with the a special request to nominate "Jim McKean", ex-NDG Baseball & Football star who went onto become a professional Major League Umpire, Canadian Baseball Hall of Famer, & CFL player, with a Lifetime Achievement Award (a first for NDG Baseball). The league voted unanimously for the award. On Friday August 14th, 2015 Graham Emceed the ceremonial event.
