CBC NEWS SEGMENT - CHARLES HINDLEY

If you've hung
around NDG Baseball fields long enough, you would have had
the pleasure of running into Charlie Hindley. Known on the
baseball diamond as an affable and competent umpire. Off the
field, he was a gregarious kind hearted man with a larger
than life personality. At the same time he was a man who was
down to earth and very humble. A set of
qualities that are unique in this day and age.
In fact,
I would hazard a guess that their are very few people who knew that Charlie gave of his time
freely, from the mid-1990's until he moved from Montreal
in 2008, once a week to clean the Loyola Chalet from top
to bottom.. He did this solely so the kids would have a proper
facility to change and that their parents
would have a
clean place to frequent. So why would Charlie do this?
Because that's the kind of guy Charlie was. He was a very community minded
type of guy.
For those of us
who knew Charlie he could probably be best described as a gifted
story-teller. Charlie always had a good story to tell and we
would gather around him like little children soaking in the every detail of his tales of
baseball follies and what have you's from yesteryear.
Today, the
baseball diamonds of NDG will be a little bit more quiet
now that he has been called back home. But
for those of us who knew Charlie, his voice will live
on within us as we reminisce about his infectious laugh and
charming
character. We all know that we have been very blessed
to have known him and feel lucky that he was part of our NDG Baseball family. Charlie
made a positive contribution in this world and I think I can speak
for everyone when I say Charlie will be remembered fondly
and will be dearly missed by all.
Condolences to
Charlie Hindley's family and extended family on behalf of NDG Minor Baseball.
